Now, thanks for visiting! Let’s talk a bit about why we built BiOGuide.

Preparing for Biology Olympiads involves a familiar set of challenges: difficulty picking the right resources, scattered notes and textbook references, incomplete practice material, a practical lack of hands-on skills, and more. This website exists to resolve most of those issues through a single, compiled, modern guide.

Our goal is to be complete and concise. That doesn’t mean short, dry text with no motivation behind it — we’ve actively aimed for the opposite — but rather that the guide contains everything you actually need for the olympiads, kept current, and presented in a modern way that still lets you learn quickly from text and data.

Now, on to the what, why, and how.

Ways of Working

Every piece of content goes through a standardized process before it’s approved for general use:

1. The Founder and Director writes and edits all content page by page, topic by topic, word by word — every concept is personally reviewed.
2. A specialised team then reviews the content and provides a rating. Only content rated above 4 (on a 1–5 scale) moves on to further editing.
3. This team also collects relevant past-year problems and compiles them into one directory for ease of use later on.
4. Finally, the content is published for you.

We hope you appreciate the effort and enjoy the website — and most importantly, that you actively participate in feedback and discussions on our community pages.

What Sets Us Apart

Some features we want to add to this website going forward:

1. A paper archive
2. An indigenous biology competition
3. An indigenous AI agent to help guide you through your prep

When we first started, we looked at existing resources like Biolympiads and Learntuitive, but found them fairly outdated, low on activity, and somewhat commercialised.

Why So Much Work

We’re captivated by biology and the life sciences — but our own journey preparing for olympiads was full of roadblocks despite relentless effort. The biggest one was finding the right resources: available textbooks were either far too dense or didn’t go into the specific depth the IBO actually requires.

That roadblock is what inspired BiOGuide. We make nothing from it — it’s completely free to read, share, and modify. Honestly, the real payoff for us is making the learning curve friendlier for the next generation of biology enthusiasts.

Cracking these competitions isn’t just about rote-memorising cellular pathways or anatomy (though a strong base of core facts is essential) — it’s about truly understanding how living systems function, working through complex problems piece by piece, and having the grit to face scenarios you’ve never seen before. We want to help you build that problem-solving intuition, which is why we plan to provide an extensive library of past-year problems with step-by-step solutions.

How Do We find people?

Our chain of command is somewhat summarised by this document (Suits ball!). As mentioned around 10 times elsewhere, contact r6394175@gmail.com for applications, we could always use some help! Currently, we are looking for all sorts of help, majorly however, in the fields of olympiad specialised content generation, problem design, community and social media managers, and also some intermediate developers.

Inspirations

1. AOGuide — thanks to an astronomy background, I discovered this treasure of a website for AO aspirants. A lot of what we’ve done here has been inspired by AOGuide, so a big thanks to the people behind it.
2. Biolympiads and Learntuitive — as mentioned above, we’ve tried to improve on what they offer, but they still serve as a benchmark and an inspiration for us.

I’m a high schooler in India who kept wishing a resource like this already existed while preparing for the International Biology Olympiad (Silver, 2026), so I built it myself. Astronomy was actually where I started (Gold, IOAA Jr 2025), and I’ve since qualified for the national selection camps in both Chemistry and Astronomy too — though biology is the one that stuck, which is probably why I can’t help connecting it back to the other two more than a syllabus usually allows. Outside this site, I split my time between chess, code,piano, tabla, violin and the occasional very average sketch. If something on here doesn’t make sense or you just want to talk shop, find me at r6394175@gmail.
